For private clients

We design a small number of private residences each year. Each one starts with the site, the light and the life that will happen there, not with a style.

Our clients are usually building the house they intend to keep: a primary residence in the city, a retreat in the mountains, or a family home that will be handed down. They value calm over spectacle, craft over trend, and a process that respects their time and their privacy.

Because visualization is part of the studio, you never have to imagine a room from a floor plan. You'll see your home photographically, lit at the hour you'll use it, at every stage of design. Decisions become easier, and surprises on site become rare.

The process

Five stages, each with a clear scope and a clear decision.

Stage 01

Discovery

We get to know you, the site and the brief. Site analysis, feasibility, a budget framework, and a written proposal.

Stage 02

Concept

Two or three spatial ideas, presented as models and photographic views, so you can feel each one before choosing.

Stage 03

Design development

Plans, elevations, materials and lighting, refined room by room, with renders of each key space.

Stage 04

Documentation

Permit and construction drawings, coordinated with engineers, consultants and your builder for accurate pricing.

Stage 05

Construction

Site visits, review of shop drawings and finishes, and a steady hand until the day you move in.

The studio is in Calgary, and most of our residential work is within a few hours' drive. For the right commission we travel, and we collaborate with local architects of record and engineers wherever a project or jurisdiction calls for them.

Frequently asked

Where do you design homes?
Our studio is in Calgary. Most of our residential work is in Calgary, the Bow Valley (Canmore and Banff), Bragg Creek, Springbank and the Okanagan, and we take on select commissions across Canada and the United States.
When should I contact you?
As early as possible, ideally before you buy a site. We can assess views, sun, slope and bylaws so you know what the land will allow before you commit.
How are design fees structured?
Each commission is scoped individually. After our first conversation we prepare a written proposal with a fixed fee for each stage, so you always know what the next step involves. A private fee guide is available on request.
Do you work with our builder?
Yes. We can work with a builder you have chosen, or recommend builders we trust in Calgary and the mountain communities, and bring them in early for pricing.
How long does a custom home take?
As a guide, design and permitting take six to twelve months, and construction takes twelve to twenty-four months, depending on size, site and complexity. We'll give you a project-specific timeline in our proposal.
Can we keep the project private?
Always. We're happy to sign a non-disclosure agreement before our first meeting, and we never publish or mention a project without your written consent.
